This position functions in a key executive management role, reporting to the Commissioner of Administrative Services, providing leadership in the strategic planning, development, acquisition, implementation, and operational initiatives in all areas of information and communication technologies in a constantly changing environment. 

The work is performed under the general direction of the Commissioner of Administrative Services with broad latitude given for the exercise of independent professional and technical judgment. 

The incumbent sets overall City IT policies to meet organizational goals; sets priorities for systems development, implements information technology security controls and cybersecurity protocols within the City, coordinates departmental user needs in an integrated approach to maximize the efficient and effective application of technological and staffing resources. 

The Chief Information Technology Officer oversees the purchasing or contracting of all hardware, software and peripheral equipment; develops, negotiates and monitors all contracts for related services. 

Administrative supervision is exercised over all IT Office staff.

The City of Albany’s Community Police Review Board (CPRB) is seeking a Program Director. The CPRB is an independent body established by the City of Albany in 2000 to improve communication between the Police Department and the community, to increase police accountability and credibility with the public, and to create a complaint review process that is free from bias and informed of actual police practice. The Program Director will serve in a leadership role at the direction of the Community Police Review Board to provide robust leadership and effective management of the CPRB’s daily activities.   The City of Albany’s 2025 Budget proposes making the CPRB a City Department, under the direction of the Common Council. 

We are seeking a highly motivated Planner to join our team. This is an entry-level position suitable for college graduates specializing in planning, landscape architecture, urban geography, urban studies, environmental science, or public administration. Trainees who have completed a one-year training period may also be considered for this role. While the work consists of basic professional assignments, it offers opportunities for growth and increased responsibilities as incumbents gain professional competence. As a Planner, you will contribute to various planning projects, assist in data analysis, and participate in the administration of land use controls.

Responsibilities: 

• Participate in the administration of zoning and local land use controls.

• Assist in reviewing physical development proposals for design adequacy, potential impacts, and compliance with land use controls.

• Prepare reports and memoranda for planning studies, utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS), statistical analyses, maps, graphs, and tables.

• Update and maintain GIS maps.

• Collect, tabulate, and analyze data related to development activity, land use, and urban issues.

• Assist in studies regarding parking, traffic, housing, and land use control.

• Support the Board of Zoning Appeals, Planning Board, and Common Council by reviewing development proposals and ensuring consistency with land use controls and relevant ordinances.

• Prepare line drawings, site plans, designs, and layouts to scale.

• Engage with community groups to discuss development and land use issues and inform citizens about pending development proposals.

• Collaborate with county, regional, and state officials to coordinate development activity, planning issues, and public improvements.

• Perform general office work and maintain records of planning department activities.

• Enter and retrieve information using automated information systems.

• Perform any related tasks as required.
