Don't miss the chance to get outside  and act as "lead" in a crew in this position, which is critical to the productivity of the team, and be responsible for directing other personnel at the job site for the safety of employees, equipment, and the public. 

Flexibility is key with a mandatory on call rotation and required ability to be available to respond for emergency services during adverse weather conditions and other situations related to public service. 

The role will regularly:

• Repair water mains and pipes

• Control traffic at work site as needed

• Install taps in water mains to run water lines from street mains to buildings using tap installation equipment

• Install and repair water valves on water mains, both under or without pressure, using hand tools

• Test the pressure of water mains and services

• Install, maintain, and repair fire hydrants using hand tools

• Install, maintain, and repair other water distribution system fixtures

• Shut off water services when needed so repairs can be made

• Operate air driven tools such as a pneumatic drill to break hard ground surfaces

• Dig and backfill dirt in the work area

• Inspect water distribution fixtures, check water pressure and condition of fixture and take appropriate action

• Fill out daily work record sheets pertaining to work performed, time spent on job, and material used

• May supervise a small work crew consisting of Equipment Operators and Laborers during the above operations

• Investigate and diagnose problems with the water distribution system

• May need to locate underground utilities using various equipment and software programs; such as line locator, tablet, utility cloud software, GIS software etc.

• Perform related work as required.

Under the general direction of the Department Head or their designee, this is a responsible technical and administrative staff position which entails the overall responsibility for review and development of all new maintenance and preventative programs including maintenance, repair, and building service work for the department’s structures and grounds.  The incumbent in this position is expected to provide technical expertise regarding to maintenance operations as well as to handle the development of contract specifications, bidding and related building/grounds maintenance.  The work is performed under general supervision, with leeway allowed for the use of independent judgment in accordance with established policies and procedures.   Supervision is exercised over all maintenance staff.
