Water & Water Supply

Performs a variety of supervisory, administrative, technical tasks and related activities for the construction, maintenance, operation, repair, and replacement of City’s water and sewer systems and related facilities. Works under the direction and reports to the Operations Manager. Exercises direct supervision over the Department’s Foremen. 

Under general direction of the Computer Systems Coordinator, this position is primarily responsible for maintaining meter inventory records and peripheral equipment on a computerized system.  Unique to this position is the interaction with city residents, departmental staff and independent contractors to facilitate the coordination of water meter repairs, customer requests and complaints while ensuring compliance with city regulations.  Explanation of office policies or applicable regulations to the public is also a duty of this position.  Supervision is not typical of this class.   

The incumbent provides technical assistance in the routine maintenance and operation of chlorinators, flow meters & transducers, and maintenance and repair of electronic devices (disinfectant system, circuit boards, UV intensity monitors, etc.) used in a modern water treatment plant.  Training is provided on a daily basis to learn the functions of a water treatment plant and all aspects of the technical field.  The incumbent performs routine calibration and maintenance of field devices, as well as assists in the repair and installation of electronic devices.   

These duties involve difficult and complex clerical work requiring the responsibility for independently performing and/or supervising all phases of utility billing activities.  The work requires extensive use of the computer, meter reading/billing software, some typing and phone skills in dealing with the public.  Work is performed under the supervision of a higher-level official in accordance with policies and procedures with incumbent permitted leeway for the exercise of independent judgment in applying policy to specific cases.  Supervision is exercised over other clerical personnel involved in the utility billing process.  Does related work as required.
