Get ready for a future career as a Police Officer. You'll assist full-time personnel throughout the Police Department, such as Front Desk, Communications, Investigations, Special Events (including Mounted & K9), Records, and Fleet Maintenance.
Shadow officers by going on “ride-alongs” or “walk-alongs" and gain invaluable experience by assuming greater responsibilities and working with increasing independence along the way.
Cadets will also be expected to participate in monthly trainings covering a wide range of topics and types of activities.

Be between the ages of 18 and 32
High school diploma or equivalency
Possess a valid NYS Driver’s License & be able to operate an automobile
Pass a background check and administrative screening
Be able to work varying shifts, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Must apply for and take all available City of Albany Police Officer exams during employment as Cadet
Have good social skills, neat appearance, general intelligence, sound judgment, and courteous demeanor
Ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written directions
Physical strength and agility
Excellent moral character!
