The City of Albany’s Fire Department is seeking a highly motivated and organized Administrative Assistant. The mission of the Albany Fire Department is to provide protection of life, property, and the environment from the effects of fire, medical emergencies, and hazards in the safest, most efficient manner possible. The Albany Fire Department operates in a fast-paced, dynamic environment that has broad and lasting positive impact on the City. The successful candidate for this position must be well organized, detail-oriented, personable, and be able to take direction as well as act independently. This position is supervised by and reports to the Chief of Department or their designee, but works with everyone on the team. The Administrative Assistant regularly, frequently, and independently interfaces with highlevel internal and external contacts requiring considerable discretion, initiative and confidentiality as core responsibilities of the position include administrative support, office management, coordination and submission of Worker’s Compensation Injury Claims, and scheduling of annual Firefighter physical exams, medical appointments and follow-up exams for Firefighters

A. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or one accredited by the NYS Board of Regents to grant degrees with an Bachelor’s Degree and one (1) year of satisfactory, fulltime paid work experience (or its part-time equivalency) in an office environment; OR 


B. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or one accredited by the NYS Board of Regents to grant degrees with an Associate’s Degree and three (3) years of satisfactory, fulltime paid work experience (or its part-time equivalency) in an office environment; OR


C. Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and five (5) years of satisfactory, fulltime paid work experience (or its part-time equivalency) in an office environment; OR 


D. Any equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) through (C) above.
